Måneskin, back in Italy

It is two days ago now that the Italian band Måneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. They are back in Rome now, the city where it all started for the band. Eurovision Universe already paid attention to the history of the band last saturday. Let’s have a look at what happened after their victory. Already on stage the band had a statement, just like Duncan Laurence did two years ago. “Rock and roll never dies!’. “Zitti e buoni” appeared to be one of the first songs the band wrote. “It’s very special to us that exactly this song is the winning Eurovision song”, they told the press. Yesterday, the band arrived at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, where the Italian press and a lot of fans were waiting for Damiano, Victoria, Thomas and Ethan, the four members of Måneskin. They told the press about their victory, about the party that followed and about the one hour sleep they had that night. In a Dutch tv-show they also added how satisfied they were with the Dutch organisation of the Eurovision Song Contest. The band added that they want the next Eurovision Song Contest to be in Rome, their home base. Officials of RAI, the Italian broadcaster, already announced there will be a bidding proces in order to select the best place for the next Eurovision Song Contest. So we have to await whether Måneskin’s wish will come true or not. Unfortunately, we cannot deny the rumour going on about Damiano using cocaine in the greenroom during the Eurovision live broadcast. Already at the press conference Damiano said he did not use cocaine but tried to clean the mess of a broken glass. The band will undergo a drugs test to prove their right. The band also states that they are against the use of drugs anyway. People working in Ahoy confirm the band’s version of the story: broken glass had been found on Måneskin’s table. People who know what it looks like to use cocaine confirm that this was clearly not what Damiano was doing. All these facts together makes us hope this storm will lay down and we can follow Måneskin closely in what they will do the upcoming year. One thing we can already reveal: two of the band members can be heard in the Italian version of a new Disney film, called “Cruella”… yes, it iss a spin-off of “101 dalmatians”.

In memoriam Franco Battiato

The sad news reached us that Franco Battiato passed away. Battiato has been active in the Italian music scene for a very long time. In the 1960s he was initially a protest singer, but later switched to romantic repertoire. In the 1970s he looked more for experimental music. It was in 1984 that he took part in the Eurovision Song Contest, together with Alice. The ballad “I treni di tozeur” was a special composition: at the end some opera singers sang along. The song became an international hit. Battiato went on steadily and made a total of 44 albums. He cooperated with among others Angelo Branduardi in the song “Il sultano di Babilonia e la prostituta’. Battiato also had a short political career as a minister in the Sicily region. In 2019 he stopped singing. Battiato died after a long illness at the age of 76.

Road to Rotterdam: Italy

It’s not as strange as you might think it is: a Danish name for an Italian band. Bassist Victoria De Angelis is half Danish.Måneskin has been active since 2016. The Italian rock band has made two albums so far, both of which reached number 1 in the Italian charts. It was therefore no surprise when the group was asked to participate in the famous festival of San Remo. And it was no big surprise that the song “Zitti e buoni” was immediately one of the favorites. Much praised was the fact that they were accompanied by the live orchestra as a rock band.Måneskin won in San Remo. That made them the first candidates for the Eurovision Song Contest. They were immediately enthusiastic, which is why we will see them again in the final in Rotterdam.

Musically, she collaborated with notable acts from the rocksteady/reggae genre, embarking on tours and producing singles like “Tutti al mare” in 2001. 2009 was pivotal for Nina as she signed with Universal, adopting the moniker ‘Nina Zilli’, inspired by Nina Simone and her mother’s surname. Her breakout single, “50mila”, received acclaim, finding its way into films and video games. She effortlessly blended soulful tunes with 60’s vibes, notably with “L’amore verrà,” reminiscent of the iconic Supremes’ hit. Nina’s participation in the 2010 Sanremo Festival brought significant recognition. With her song “L’uomo che amava le donne”, she clinched multiple awards and her track garnered gold certification. Her album “Sempre lontano” mirrored this success, achieving platinum status. She continued to make her mark in the industry with performances, award recognitions, and collaborations. In 2012, Nina Zilli made significant strides in her music career. She was announced as a participant in the renowned Sanremo Festival with her song “Per sempre,” which set the stage for her second album, “L’amore è femmina.” This album featured collaborations, most notably with Carmen Consoli, on the track “Un’altra estate.” “Per sempre” earned a platinum certification after securing over 30,000 digital downloads. That year, she also graced the stage at the Rome’s May 1st Concert, co-hosted “Panariello non esiste” with Giorgio Panariello, and represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. Throughout the subsequent years, Zilli remained active in the music scene. In 2013, she appeared in a televised musical event with Gianni Morandi, performing the duet “Parla più piano.” 2014 saw her penning songs for other artists, collaborating on tracks, and being announced as a contestant in the 2015 Sanremo Festival with the song “Sola.” Alongside this, she released her third studio album “Frasi & fumo,” which was primarily a collaboration with Neffa. Her stint as a judge in the 2015 season of “Italia’s Got Talent” showcased another side of Zilli. In 2016, she co-hosted the show “Sogno e son desto” and contributed to Loredana Bertè’s album. Zilli’s fourth album, “Modern Art,” dropped in 2017, exemplifying a blend of modern and urban-tropical sounds. In the subsequent years, she participated in various music festivals, released several singles, and continued collaborations with other Italian artists, including a significant one with Diodato at the 70th Sanremo Festival in 2020. In recent times, Zilli has been active with singles like “Schiacciacuore” and “Señorita,” the latter being a collaboration with Clementino. 2022 and 2023 saw her teaming up with Danti on tracks like “Munsta” and “Innamorata (F_U),” showcasing her continuous evolution as an artist. He cooperated

It was therefore no surprise when the group was asked to participate in the famous festival of San Remo. And it was no big surprise that the song “Zitti e buoni” was immediately one of the favorites.
