Their early sound leaned towards the heavier side of hard rock, making them one of the pioneering acts of traditional heavy metal in the Romanian music scene. During this period, the band went through numerous lineup changes, which eventually led to the formation of a second Voltaj known as Voltaj 88′. This lineup also released several albums in the 1990s. By the time of their debut album in 1996, “Pericol de Moarte,” only drummer Nikki Dinescu remained from the original lineup. The album, which also featured Tavi Colen Talisman on vocals, showcased their heavy metal style and remains their only record in that genre. In 1998, the two remaining members, bass player Vali Ionescu and guitarist Gabi Constantin, recruited a new lineup with Bobby Stoica on keyboards and Călin Goia as the new vocalist. With Goia’s vocals and creative input, the group quickly gained success and popularity. They transitioned to an electronic-influenced pop-rock sound with the release of their album “Risc Maxim 2.” In 2002, Oliver Sterian joined the band as the drummer. Voltaj went on to release numerous hit singles, including “20 ani,” “Albinuța,” “De mâine,” “De la capăt,” and “Doar pentru ea,” establishing themselves as one of the most well-known groups in Romania. They won the Best Romanian Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2005. After winning Selecția Națională in 2015, they represented Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “De la capăt.” They advanced from the semi-finals and placed 15th in the final with 35 points. In 2016, a new album, “X”, was released. It contained several hits, like “Merci de box” and “De la capăt”. A third song, “Om”, became a hit in 2020. That was even after the release of the 2019 album “Ca La 20 De Ani”.  Between December 3 and 5, 2021, Voltaj performed several concerts, both in Toronto and Montreal. During Christmas, they released “Anotimpuri” (Seasons), a collaboration with Vali Sterian, the late Romanian musician, singer, and composer known for his folk and rock music. The entire concert can be found on Voltaj’ Youtube Channel. On 1 June 2023, a new single was released:  “Copile”. The Makemakes

© EBU/Thomas Hanses About Quick Facts MembersDominic ‘Dodo’ MuhrerMarkus ChristFlorian Meind Active2012-2020 Nationality🇦🇹 Austrian National SelectionWer Singt Für Österreich? 2015 In Eurovision2015 Vienna SongI Am Yours (2015) Biography The Makemakes were an Austrian rock music group consisting of Dominic “Dodo” Muhrer and musicians Florian Meindl and Markus Christ. The name is derived from the dwarf planet Makemake, which in turn was named after the creator deity Makemake in the culture of Easter Island. The band gained recognition in 2013 when they performed as the opening act for Bon Jovi. The band’s popularity was also fueled by a widely quoted rumor in the press that the group’s singer, Dodo Muhrer, could be an illegitimate son of actor Christoph Waltz. They were chosen as Austria’s candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Their song “I Am Yours” faced plagiarism allegations, claiming similarities to the song “The Scientist” by the British band Coldplay. An official examination concluded that no plagiarism had occurred. Their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Vienna on May 23, 2015, was not successful, as they received zero points. They finished last out of 27 participating countries. In reference to the successful Swedish winning song, The Makemakes released a satirical video titled “We are the Zeroes of our Time” on Facebook on the night of the contest. The video received over half a million views in a few days and was interpreted by the media as a fitting gesture. In response, German particpant Ann Sophie, inspired by The Makemakes, released her own version of the Austrian parody the following day. For the reimagined version of the song “Climb Every Mountain” from the musical The Sound Of Music, the US producer Humberto Gatica enlisted The Makemakes as duet partners for American Idol finalist Joshua Ledet. In 2017, they filmed the ServusTV documentary The Makemakes in Hollywood – In the Footsteps of The Sound of Music. In March 2018, The Makemakes released their official comeback single “Keep On Moving” in Austria, in which they claimed to return to their musical roots. In December, The Makemakes participated in the production of the third episode of the first season of “My Hit Your Song” on ProSieben. With their rock arrangements of the songs “Love Is All Around” and “Freedom” by DJ BoBo, they emerged as winners, earning a prize of 25,000 euros. The German audience responded positively to the band, who were relatively unknown in Germany at the time. In 2019, two singles of the band, “The Beach” and “Heyo”, became successes in the United Kingdom. In 2020, the band released their version of “Vivo Per Lei”. That was the last time The Makemakes released music together. Currently, Dodo Muhrer is using the social media of The Makemakes to publish his own music. The group consisted of six members, five of whom hailed from different continents as part of the Armenian diaspora. The dispersion of their families around the world was a result of the Armenian genocide in 1915. The five artists from the diaspora symbolized the five petals of the forget-me-not flower, which served as the official logo for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, commemorated in April 2015. The sixth member, based in Armenia, represented the center of the flower. Their entry for the contest was the song “Face the Shadow,” initially titled “Don’t Deny.” However, the organizers decided to change the title due to its political nature, as it alluded to the denial of the Armenian genocide. Genealogy represented Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 final, held on May 23, 2015, and secured the 16th position overall with a total of 34 points from eight countries, receiving the maximum 12 points from Georgia. The group comprised individuals from diverse backgrounds. The first member announced was Essaï Altounian, a French Armenian, on February 16, 2015. Tamar Kaprelian, an American-Armenian singer, was revealed as the second member on February 20, 2015. Vahe Tilbian, an Armenian-Ethiopian singer, became the third member, announced on February 23, 2015. Stephanie Topalian, a singer of Armenian-American-Japanese heritage residing in Japan, was introduced as the fourth member on February 27, 2015. Inga Arshakyan, who had previously represented Armenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 alongside her sister, Anush, completed the group as the sixth member. On April 28, 2015, during an audience with President Serzh Sargsyan, the five members from the Armenian diaspora (Kaprelian, O’Doherty Basmadjian, Tilbian, Altounian, and Topalian) were granted Armenian citizenship and received their Armenian passports. Sanja Ilić & Balkanika

© EBU/Andres Putting About Quick Facts MembersAleksandar RadulovićLjubomir DimitrijevićNevena StamenkovićDanica KrstićMladen LukićIva Banićević Founded2000 Nationality???????? Serbian National SelectionBeovizija 2018 In Eurovision2018 Lisbon SongNova deca (2018) Biography Aleksandar ‘Sanja’ Ilić (born in Belgrade, March 27, 1951) was a Serbian composer and architect. When he was 12 or 13, he wrote music based on a text by Dusko Radović performed by Dragan Laković. When he was 16, he sent his composition “Pesnik mira”, to Jugovizija, the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. The song was sung by Lola Novaković. As a young man, he performed in the group Vragolani, and then in the group San. In the seventies of the 20th century, he composed music for the anthem of the Yugoslav national soccer team. Ilić graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade in 1975.  In 1976, he participated in Jugovizija again, the song “Bye, bye, bye” was performed by Bisera Veletanlić.  Ilić’ song “Halo, halo” performed by the group Aska, represented Yugoslavia at the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest. His song “Princeza”, performed by Sladjana Milosević and Dado Topić, was a candidate in Jugovizija 1984. Aleksandar Ilić died on 7 March, 2021, of COVID19. On June 29, 2021, he was posthumously awarded the Gold Medal of Merit.  The idea for creating the group Sanja Ilić & BALKANIKA certainly came from Sanja Ilić. He wanted to start thinking about some completely new music at a time when he thought that the musical milieu from the end of the nineties no longer suited him. He searched and inquired about young and talented musicians who play strange and already forgotten instruments and he found them. Kaval, džumbuš, tapan, darbuke, saz, ut, gadulka appear in the music of Balkanika. The first album was mostly made by Sanja in the home studio with the whistles of bombs in 1999. Sanja named it “Balkan 2000”. The album soon became the best-selling album of the country. Before the end of 1999, a decision was made by Serbian broadcaster RTS to do the first big television show after the bombing, with complete material from the album Balkan 2000. All the performers from the album participated in the show.  Officially, the first concert of Balknika was held on June 26, 2000 at the Lent Festival in Maribor, Slovenia. That concert was probably a turning point in Sanja’s decision for the group to embark on a concert career. In 2001, Balkanika performed in Shanghai for the Shanghai International Art Festival. The concerts were preceded by promotions on Shanghai’s main television. In 2002, they went on a tour throughout Mexico. When coming back to Serbia, all the materials were arranged to a show called “Balkanika in …”. In 2005, Balkanika performed in Pakistan and in 2008 in Egypt with the mixed choir of the Cairo Opera.  Balkanika gave more than 500 concerts on all continents. The style of Balkanika has not changed since 2000. The Balkans have always been the inspiration, but the approach to each new song has been enriched with new, modern sounds offered by new technologies. In 2006, a second album called “Balkan Concept” was released. The third album, “Ceeepaj” came in 20009. With the arrival of the famous musician Boris Krstajić in 2014, he made a sudden turn at the head of the BALKANIKA production team. A complete album in English called “Stand Up” was made. The orchestra is joined by a young but strong and very talented rhythm section and the excellent singer Mladen Lukić, who proved his qualities in X Factor. Three excellent female vocalists remained in the group, Nevena Paripović, Danica Krstić andMarija Paripović, who with their strong and solid ethno voices give a new dimension to the pop rock concept of the “new” Balkanika.  After the songs for the album “Stand Up” were finished, the translations into Serbian started. One of the first translations was made for the song “Don’t cry”, which in Serbian translation is called “Za kraj”. In 2018, Balkanika won Beovizija and went to Lisbon for the Eurovision Song Contest as the Serbian representatives. In the grand final, they reached the 19th place. Also in 2018, the group received the first audience award and the first prize of the expert jury at the Ohrid Troubadours International Music Festival 2018.  At the first international festival MAC Music Awards Ceremony held in January 2019 in the Belgrade Arena, the group received, probably the most prestigious music award in the region as the best ethno group, again with the song “Nova deca”.  Entries Nova Deca Country???????? After their victory in Iceland, they said in interviews that they wanted to use the participation to protest against Israeli politics. The band qualified for the final on may 16. When the hosts announced the points to the band from the audience, they showed banners with the Palestinian flag to protest against the Israeli occupation and the ongoing state of war. However, this political message violated the rule of political neutrality. The EBU announced that it would investigate the procedure in more detail. In the end, the Icelandic TV station RÚV, was sentenced by the EBU to pay a fine of €5,000.After Eurovision, the band released a music video for the song “Klefi / Samed”, which was shot in Jericho. The song was a collaboration with the Palestinian musician Bashar Murad. Hatari´s debut album “Neyslutrans” was released in early 2020, when their Europe Will Crumble tour started.

Yevgen Halych (vocals), Denis Myzyuk (guitar), Oleksandr Nechyporenko (guitar) and Ihor Odaryuk (changed trombone to bass guitar) joined the team. A drummer joined the team as well.

Yevgen Halych (vocals), Denis Myzyuk (guitar), Oleksandr Nechyporenko (guitar) and Ihor Odaryuk (changed trombone to bass guitar) joined the team. A drummer joined the team as well.
