Cyprus thanked Sandro Nicolas, who would participate in 2020, for services rendered. Instead, they teamed up with Athens-born Elena Tsagrinou.That was not without any struggle. The Orthodox Church protested against the song “El diablo”. A declaration of love to the devil was not done they said, and they even demanded from the Cypriot government that the song had to be withdrawn. They hadn’t listened really well: the song was by no means a song of praise to the devil, but is about a woman who falls for a bad man.

Her song is about “falling in  love with someone as bad as the devil” and was written by Jimmy “Joker” Thornfeldt, Laurell Baker, Oxa and Thomas Stengaard. Elena Tsagrinou was selected internally by Cypriot broadcaster CyBC for the 65th edition of the contest. She will perform in the first semi-final on 18 May. This year’s contestant Sandro was one of the first contestants who announced that he was not available for the 2021 contest. It was said that CyBC and he agreed upon this. So, the search for a new contestant could start. Elena Tsagrinou is a wellknown singer in Cyprus and Greece. Elena, born in 1994, took part in the show  Ellada Eheis Talento (Greece Got Talent), where she reached the semifinals. However, she rose to fame with the band Otherview. They scored several hits in the Greek speaking countries. She started a solo career in 2018. She was a co-host of The Voice of Greece. “Amore”, one of Elena’s songs. This is NOT the Eurovision song!! The song is written by Jimmy Thornfeldt, Laurell Barker, Oxa and Thomas Stengaard. Cyprus takes part in Eurovision since 1981. Their best score so far was a 2nd place with Eleni Foureira in 2018.

Allocation draw 2020 will be the same in 2021

As the countries participating in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest will be the same as in 2020, the allocation draw also will be the same. Eurovision.tv just confirmed that the 41 participating countries agreed on that. That means, the countries will perform in the same part of the same semifinal as was planned for the 2020 contest. Of course, the following order will be decided when all the songs are known. The allocation draw was, and is: 1st semifinal, 1st part: North Macedonia Belarus Lithuania Sweden Slovenia Australia Ireland Russia 1st semifinal, 2nd part: Norway Cyprus Croatia Azerbaijan Malta Israel Ukraine Romania Belgium 2nd semifinal, 1st part: Austria Moldova Poland San Marino Serbia Iceland Czech Republic Greece Estonia Germany, Italy and The Netherlands will also be able to vote in this semifinal. 2nd semifinal, 2nd part: Denmark Bulgaria Switzerland Finland Armenia Latvia Georgia Portugal Albania France, Spain and the United Kingdom will also be able to vote in this semifinal.

No Sandro in Rotterdam next year

Rumours were going on already, but now the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has confirmed the news: Sandro Nicolas will not represent Cyprus in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Therewith, he is the first 2020 participant who was chosen internally, who will not return in 2021. This is what CyBC stated: “Due to a mutual agreement with Sandro and his management and taken into consideration his schedule of commitments, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation wishes to inform that the said artist will not be representing Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The Cyprus delegation would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Sandro for representing Cyprus at ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light’ and to wholeheartedly wish him all the very best in the future’. Sandro himself did not comment on the subject yet.

Of course, we would have loved to keep you updated for the rehearsals of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. But unfortunately, that is impossible.Thank goodness, this week we can follow Eurostream 2020, a great alternative for the contest.On Tuesday, may 5th, you can watch the first semifinal show. On thurday, may 7th, you can watch the second one. Of course, upcoming saturday we will have the Grand Final!!! You can watch them on the Eurostream Youtube Channel or Facebook Page.And guess what: YOU are able to vote in it. Today, our friends of Aussievision did the draw for the first semifinal of Eurostream 2020. Iceland wins “Der kleine Song Contest”

In Austria, they had their own song contest this year. Divided over three shows, an expert jury chose three songs to be judged by Austrian televoters. And the winner is…. Iceland! Daði  & Gagnamagnið got 48% of the votes with their song “Think about things”, while Austria was the runner up with 33%. Malta became 3rd with 19% of the votes. Cyprus thanked Sandro Nicolas, who would participate in 2020, for services rendered. Instead, they teamed up with Athens-born Elena Tsagrinou.That was not without any struggle. The Orthodox Church protested against the song “El diablo”. A declaration of love to the devil was not done they said, and they even demanded from the Cypriot government that the song had to be withdrawn. They hadn’t listened really well: the song was by no means a song of praise to the devil, but is about a woman who falls for a bad man.

Cyprus: Elena Tsagrinou releases “El diablo”.

Photo: Panik Records Elena Tsagrinou, the Cypriot contestant of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, released her song “El diablo”. Her song is about “falling in  love with someone as bad as the devil” and was written by Jimmy “Joker” Thornfeldt, Laurell Baker, Oxa and Thomas Stengaard. Elena Tsagrinou was selected internally by Cypriot broadcaster CyBC for the 65th edition of the contest. She will perform in the first semi-final on 18 May. Allocation draw 2020 will be the same in 2021

As the countries participating in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest will be the same as in 2020, the allocation draw also will be the same. Eurovision.tv just confirmed that the 41 participating countries agreed on that. That means, the countries will perform in the same part of the same semifinal as was planned for the 2020 contest. Of course, the following order will be decided when all the songs are known. No Sandro in Rotterdam next year

Rumours were going on already, but now the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has confirmed the news: Sandro Nicolas will not represent Cyprus in the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. Therewith, he is the first 2020 participant who was chosen internally, who will not return in 2021. Iceland wins “Der kleine Song Contest”

In Austria, they had their own song contest this year. Divided over three shows, an expert jury chose three songs to be judged by Austrian televoters. And the winner is…. Iceland! Daði  & Gagnamagnið got 48% of the votes with their song “Think about things”, while Austria was the runner up with 33%. Malta became 3rd with 19% of the votes.
