For a long time, Russia was very secretive about the submission. In the end, Manizha’s “Russian woman” was chosen from a preliminary round with three songs. Manizha was born in Tajikistan but soon moved to Moscow. In addition to making music, she draws attention to feminism, LGBTI + rights and domestic violence. It meant that not everyone in Russia was happy with her selection.

The duo Shkodra Elektronike has won the Albanian national selection Festivali i Këngës. So, Shkodra Elektronike represents Albania. After two years of seperated selecions, the winner of this years contest is also the Eurovision participant. Beatriçe Gjergji and Lekë Gjeloshi, who form the duo, also wrote the song. It is not yet known whether the song will be sung in Albanian or in English.
