Biography
VAL is a Belarusian duo that mainly produces music from the areas of house, R&B, pop and hip hop. The duet was founded in early 2016 by singer Valeria Gribusova and musician and music producer Vladislav Pashkevich. Since mid-2016, the project has been produced by the ToneTwins team, which also includes musician and producer Andrei Katikov, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. On May 1st, 2016 VAL released their first song “Kto ty yest”. In September 2016 the second single “Veter vo sne” was released, followed by a video of the song.
The duo was supposed to represent Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Da vidna”. Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of the contest, it didn’t happen. After a statement of VAL, supporting the Belarusian opposition, Belarusian broadcaster BTRC said that VAL broke their contract concerning Eurovision, and thus would not be invited for the 2021 contest.
