Biography
Tommy Seebach was a Danish singer. Already as a 14 year old boy, he started playing in bands, but his real breakthrough came in 1965 when he became the leadsinger of Sir Henry and his Butlers. In 1976 he started a solo career. His first solo album was called “Tommygum”. In the meanwhile Seebach also worked as a producer for his record company EMI.
In 1979 he took part for the first time in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. He took the Grand Prix stage a total of seven times. Three times it lead to participation for Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1979 with the song “Disco tango”, in 1981 together with Debbie Cameron with “Krøller eller ej” and in 1993 he sang “Under stjernerne på himlen” with the Tommy Seebach Band.
In the nineties, the success of Tommy Seebach faded. He tried to make a comeback in 1999 with a re-make of “Krøller eller ej”. He toured the country’s discothèques at that time and found cult interest in his old hits among a new, younger audience. He died at the age of 53 at the 31st of march 2003 at the amusement park Bakken, where he had been head of musical entertainment for several years. Although he had managed to overcome his alcoholism at the time, the cause of his death, a heart attack, was ascribed to his previous addiction. Both his sons choose to go in his footsteps: Nicolai Seebach is a songwriter and producer, Rasmus Seebach is a very popular singer in Denmark.
