Biography
Tina Reynolds did not have an easy youth, living in hospitals and with her mother passing away at a young age. She was 16 when she won a talent contest and was asked to join the band The Mexicans. From 1966 until 1968 she sang in this band. After they split up she joined another band, The Real McCoy. Meanwhile, she participated in the Irish national Song Contest 1968. Their first hit was “I don’t know how to love him”, a cover version of the Jesus Christ Superstar song. It became a #1 in the Irish charts, and many hits followed. In 1972, she tried again at the Irish National Song Contest. In 1973, she was sent to Luxembourg to replace Maxi in the Eurovision Song Contest after a disagreement about the song. In the end, Maxi sang and Tina could go home. A few months later, she got seriously injured in a car accident. It took her long to recover, and she did not return to The Real McCoy. In 1974, she represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Cross your heart”.
After Eurovision, Tina was asked to join the Irish band The Nevada. She was a member of this group until 1978. In 1979, she sang a duet with Red Hurley in the Irish National Song Contest. Tina retired from showbusiness after singing in cabarets for a couple of years in the 1980s.
