Thérèse Steinmetz

Biography

Thérèse Steinmetz is a Dutch singer. She studied singing at the conservatory and followed acting lessons. She started playing in theatres with “De Nederlandse Comedie” and performed in several shows on Dutch television, amon others musicals. She also acted in the movie “De vergeten medeminnaar”. In 1966, she got her own show on tv. 
In 1967 Thérèse Steinmetz was chosen to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang the song “Ring-dinge”. In the same year, she had a hit in the Dutch charts with “Speel het spel”.
Thèrèse had an interest in Romanian folk and dance and won the Festival of Brașov, Romania in 1970. She played in the musical “Maagd op je dak” in 1971.
In 1976 she started her own cabaret and chanson programs “Opus 1 Plus 3” and “Opus 2”, with which she toured theaters. She also toured the theatres together with André van den Heuvel in the program “Alleen op maandag”.
Nowadays she lives in France where she is a painting artist. In 2019, a triple CD-box called “Ik zing voor u een lied” was released, with 67 songs from all over her career. 
Thérèse Steinmetz was first married to tenor Arjan Blanken, with whom she had a daughter, Sylvia. After this marriage, she lived with lyricist Gerrit den Braber until his dead in 1997.
