Biography

The Herreys are a group of three brothers, born in Sweden but living in the United States. In the seventies they already performed together. In these days, they included their sister Marie. To develop their talents, the father of the boys decided to move to Los Angeles with the family, where they could get singing en dancing education. In the meanwhile, they had their first record contract. In 1984, they decided to participate in Melodifestivalen and won. Although expectations in Sweden were not too high, they also won Eurovision, which lead to an international hit with their winning entry “Diggi-loo diggi-ley”. he group continued to participate in music competitions even after the victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. They won the Sopot Festival (Eastern Europe’s equivalent of the Eurovision Song Contest) with the song “Summer Party”, a song that was intended to be in Melodifestivalen, but was not selected. After winning and attending the competition, the group made tours in the Soviet Union in 1985 and 1987. In 1985, the brothers won the vote for “best Swedish artist” and got over twice as many points as the runner up, Carola.  Herreys was the best-selling pop group in Sweden throughout the 1980s. Herrey’s sold about 4 million records in Europe, and in mid-1984 they broke several audience records during their National Park tour. They toured and performed extensively during 1984 and 1985, but after that the popularity waned. Today, only Richard Herrey works with music full time, including as a musical artist.
