Biography

Tautumeitas is a Latvian folk and world music group formed in 2015. The ensemble consists of five female vocalists and instrumentalists: Asnate Rancāne (violin, vocals), Aurēlija Rancāne (drums, vocals), Laura Vārpiņa (percussion, vocals), Laura Marta Līcīte (percussion, violin, vocals), and Gabriēla Zvaigznīte (vocals). The band’s name translates to “folk maidens,” reflecting their dedication to Latvian cultural heritage.

In 2017, Tautumeitas collaborated with the Latvian folk group Auļi to release the album “Lai māsiņa rotājās!” This 13-track collection focuses on themes of engagements and weddings, drawing from Baltic folk traditions. The album received the Annual Latvian Music Recording Award for Best Folk Music Album in 2017.

The following year, in 2018, Tautumeitas released their self-titled debut album, further establishing their presence in the folk music scene. In 2019, they introduced “Dziesmas no Aulejas,” an album featuring traditional songs from the Auleja region of Latvia. This work showcased their commitment to preserving and promoting regional musical heritage.

In 2022, the band released “Skrejceļš,” an album that continued to blend traditional Latvian folk elements with contemporary influences. This release demonstrated their evolving musical style and ability to innovate within the folk genre.

In November 2024, Tautumeitas was announced as a semi-finalist in Supernova 2025, Latvia’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, with their song “Bur man laimi.” On February 8, 2025, they won the competition, securing the opportunity to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

Throughout their career, Tautumeitas has been recognized for their dynamic performances and innovative approach to traditional music. Their discography includes notable albums such as “Lai māsiņa rotājās!” (2017), “Tautumeitas” (2018), “Dziesmas no Aulejas” (2019), and “Skrejceļš” (2022).
