Biography

Semiha Yankı (born January 15, 1958, Istanbul) is a Turkish singer.

Semiha Yankı is the daughter of a family that made a living from circus acrobats. Semiha turned to music when her brother, who was a tightrope walker, fell from the trapeze and died. Her older sister, model Hamiyet Yankı, is married to producer İrfan Atasoy.

Kemal Ebcioğlu’s composition “Seninle bir dakika” competed in the Eurovision Turkey national finals in 1975, and won the first place with the song “Delisin”, which was sung by Cici Girls. Semiha Yankı was the winner in the draw  and was entitled to represent Turkey in the Eurovision contest held in Stockholm. In the competition in Stockholm, Semiha Yankı took the last place with only 3 points from Monaco. This bad result is due to political reasons (just before the competition, Turkey carried out the Cyprus Peace Operation). In the following years, Yankı never left the stage and her name was always connected to Eurovision.
