Biography

Samra Rahimli was born in Baku. She studied at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts.

In 2012, Samra Rahimli participated in the National Selection of Azerbaijan to represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest. But the fact that 18-year-old Samra is young and inexperienced resulted in her defeat in the very first stage of the national finals. In 2014, Samra Rahimli took part in O Ses Türkiye (The Voice Turkey).

In 2016, Samra Rahimli took part in Səs Azərbaycan (The Voice Azerbaijan). She performed the song “Wrecking Ball” in the first stage and all 4 judges turned to Samra khanum. Samra reached the final and became 4th in the overall contest.

On March 10, 2016, it was decided that Samra Rahimli was going represent Azerbaijan in the 61st Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Miracle”. She reached the final there.

After the Eurovision Song Contest, she released many non-album singles, like “Badminton” in 2017, “Ters gedir”, “Hypnotized” and “Pidzhak” in 2018, “Armas” in 2019 and “Queen” in 2020. On 1 December 2020 she released a single “Şuşa, biz qayıtmışıq” (Susha, we are back) about the war in Karabakh.  Her debut album “Göz” came out in 2021.

In 2023, the book “Mahnılarımız monitorinq aynasında” (Our songs in the monitoring mirror) prepared by the Monitoring Center under the Azerbaijan State Language Commission compiled a list of songs that promote the use of harmful habits, immoral lifestyles, behaviors that are contrary to mental values, and encourage aggressive actions and suicide. Defective songs are listed with the names of their authors and performers. Samra’s songs “Bandam”, “Armas” and “Göz” were also included in the list.
