Ronnie Tober

Biography

Ronnie Tober is a Dutch singer. He was born in Bussum, however, his family moved to the United States when he was 3 years old. He lived in Albany, New York. As a teenager, he played in musicals and he even performed for senator John F. Kennedy.
His first tv-performance in the Netherlands took place in 1963 in “Voor de vuist weg”, a well watched show on Dutch tv. In 1964, Tober decided to come back to the Netherlands.
His first great success came in 1965 when he took part in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. One of his songs, “Geweldig”, became a huge hit in the Netherlands.  One year later, he performed in the festival of Knokke. With “Showtime on broadway” he won the festival of Sopot. It was in 1968 that Ronnie Tober represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Morgen”. The song was not a hit in the version of Ronnie Tober. The English version of The Blue Diamonds, “Someday”, however, reached the charts.
Tober had many hits during the late 1960s and early 1970s, like “Verboden vruchten”, “Arrivederci Ans” and “Rozen voor Sandra”. He had his own tv-shows on Dutch television as well.
In 2003 he was knighted in the order of Oranje-Nassau because of the 40th anniversary of his career. He released a single “De wandelexpress” in 2006. In 2013 he made a song, “Dank U Majesteit”, together with René Riva, in honour of Queen Beatrix who resigned that year. In 2018 he was one of the guest artists at The Toppers’ annual concert.
