Biography
Poli Genova is a Bulgarian singer, songwriter, actress, and television presenter. Her musical career began when she was only 4 years old. In 1995, she became the first member of the newly formed children’s vocal group Bon-Bon. For six years, Genova has been the host of the children’s show. With Nelly Rangelova, Bon-bon participated in the Golden Orpheus and won the special award of Bulgarian broadcaster BNT.
Poli graduated from the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School with a major in clarinet. Subsequently, he followed directing at NATFIZ. In parallel with her studies, she developed her career.
As a member of the group Melody, later Melody Traffic, Poli participated in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and 2006. Both times they reached the final.
In 2007, she was invited by Dani Milev’s band to be a vocalist in Azis’ Evening Show. In 2008, he participated in the first edition of the dancing show Dancing with the Stars. She also participates in the Magnificent Six charity project.
In 2009 Poli participated in the Bulgarian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “One lifetime is not enough”, gaining the 2nd place. In 2011, her song “Na inat” won the right to participate in Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf. Unfortunately she didn’t reach the final.
In the same year, Genova was a member of the jury in the first season of the music show X Factor Bulgaria. In the reality show, she was the coach of the groups. She also voiced one of the main characters, Smurfette, in the dubbing of the movie “The Smurfs”.
In 2013, she participated in the reality show Muzikalna Akademiya, where she almost always took the first places in the weekly rankings. At the end of the season, she won first place in the competition.
In 2015, she was the host of the 13th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, held in Sofia.
In February 2016, BNT chose Polly Genova to represent Bulgaria at Eurovision 2016, where she performed the song “If Love Was a Crime”. She finished 4th in the final, up til then the best score for Bulgaria.
In 2017 and 2018, Genova participated in Glasat na Bulgaria (The Voice of Bulgaria) as a coach. She also participated in the TV shows Kato dve kapki voda (2016 – fourth season and 2021 – ninth) and Maskiraniyat pevets (The Masked Singer) in the role of Eyes in 2020.
On July 30, 2021, Genova presented her first concert at the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv. In 2022 she scored a big hit with the song “Happy face”, and again in 2023 with “Help me out”.
