Biography

Philip Kirkorov is a Bulgarian-Russian popsinger. He was born in Varna, Bulgaria, to a Bulgarian mother and an Armenian father. His family moved to the Soviet Union when he was a child.

Kirkorov began his musical career in the late 1980s and quickly gained popularity in Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union. He released his first album, “Philipp,” in 1990, which included the hit song “Zhestokaya Lyubov” (“Cruel Love”). His subsequent albums, including “Ochi Chernye” (“Dark Eyes”) and “Poy” (“Sing”), also became bestsellers.

In addition to his music career, Kirkorov has also been active in the entertainment industry as a television personality, actor, and producer. He has hosted several television shows in Russia, including the talent show “Fabrika Zvezd” (“Star Factory”), which has produced several successful singers, including Dima Bilan.

Kirkorov has represented Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1995, he placed 17th with the song “Kolybelnaya Dlya Vulkana”. Later, he wrote and composed no less than eight songs for the Eurovision Song Contest for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.

Kirkorov has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the “People’s Artist of Russia” title in 2008. He has also been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for his music achievements, including the most number one hits in the Russian music charts.

Despite his success, Kirkorov has been the subject of controversy at times. In 2019, he faced criticism for performing a song that was perceived as mocking the Armenian genocide during a concert in Azerbaijan.

Overall, Philipp Kirkorov has had a successful and influential career in the Russian music and entertainment industry. He continues to perform and produce music, as well as mentor young talent in Russia.
