Biography

Pepel in Kri, a pioneering Slovenian pop-rock band, was formed in the early 1970s, playing a crucial role in shaping the music scene in both Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia. The band’s name, which translates to “Ashes and Blood,” signifies their unique fusion of traditional folk elements with modern pop and rock styles.

The original lineup of the group consisted of Oto Pestner, Nada Zgur, Dusan Velkaverh, Lado Leskovar, and Dusan Balazic. The band gained recognition for their musical versatility, incorporating meaningful themes into their songs, such as love, unity, and the human experience. This deep connection with their audience has contributed to their long-lasting popularity.

Pepel in Kri’s breakthrough moment came in 1975 when they represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest with their entry “Dan ljubezni” (Day of Love). The song finished in 13th place.
