Biography

O.Torvald is a Ukrainian rock band founded in 2005 in Poltava.

The history of the band’s creation begins with Yevhen Halych’s childhood acquaintance with Denys Myzyuk (1994). The great desire of both to play rock and roll led to the appearance in 1999 of the band “Cool! Pedals”, which existed until 2005. On November 4, 2005, the band “O.Torvald” was founded. Yevgen Halych (vocals), Denis Myzyuk (guitar), Oleksandr Nechyporenko (guitar) and Ihor Odaryuk (changed trombone to bass guitar) joined the team. A drummer joined the team as well. Already in 5 months (2006), the musicians moved to Kyiv.

They took part in competitive festivals, including GBOB, Chervona Ruta, Perlyny Sezonu and Tavriysʹki ihry. At the same time, the band recorded their songs, many of which remained in demo versions.

At the end of 2007, at one of the Kyiv studios, O.torvald began recording its debut album. The CD, recorded on “Vesna Music”, under the name of “O.Torvald – 2008” was released in May 2008. The band released a video clip of the song “Ne zalyshay” as well.

The band began to appear more and more often on television, radio and other mass media. The next video was shot not for a song from the album, but for the old track “Pochuttya”.

At the beginning of 2009, the American director of Ukrainian origin, Alex Baev, offered the band members to shoot two video clips. He has long dreamed of creating a video for a band from Ukraine. It was decided to film a song from the album, “Kyiv-London” and a completely new track “Ne hruzy”. Work on clips lasted two months.

Their final breakthrough came after the release of the second album “V tobi” in September 2011. O.Torvald presented the album in 30 cities of Ukraine during an autumn tour, which was called “V TOBI TOUR 2011”. With the arrival of a new drummer and bassist, the band sounded different.

In February 2012, the musicians arranged an acoustic tour, during which they recorded all their performances. In April, the concert recordings refined in the studio were released as an acoustic album. At the same time, O.Torvald started to work on the third studio album.

In the summer of 2012, the band played at 20 festivals, including Prosto Rock (with Linkin Park, Garbage), Krasze Mysto (with Evanescence, The Rasmus), Zahid, Ekolomyja (Poland). At the Global Gathering festival in July, the musicians together with DJ Tapolsky and VovKING presented a joint electronic-rock mini-album “Use Us”.

In autumn, the release of the third studio album “Primate” was announced and a video clip for the song “Mr.DJ” was presented. The album was released on November 23. As part of the tour in support of it, the musicians played more than 20 concerts.

In the fall of 2014, the group announced the release of the fifth album “Ty ye”. It was released on December 4, 2014.

On February 25, 2017, the band O.Torvald won Ukrainian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest and thus represented (hostcountry) Ukraine. O.Torvald took 24th place in the Grand Final.

At the beginning of 2018, Oleksandr Solokha left the band and moved to Poland. Vadym Kolisnychenko, who is also a drummer in the Skryabin band, joined the band. On March 13, 2018, the music video for the song “Likhtari” from the album “Bisaydy” was presented. On March 20, 2018, the band’s first major tour in Europe began. It covered cities in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. On March 4, it was announced that Oleksandr Solokha had returned to the band.

On April 18, 2019, the premieres of the songs and clips of the O.Torvald group “Dva Nulʹ Odyn Visim” and “Nazovni” took place, which ended the almost year-long creative break that began in 2018.

On July 4, 2019, the premiere of the music video “Desʹ ne tut” from the new album “Diller Kaifu”, which was released on October 18, 2019[10] took place.

On May 28, 2020, drummer Anastasia Sereda announced that she was leaving the band. With the new drummer Dmitriy Dram, the Diller Kaifu tour took place in October and November of that year. Also in october, as the band excisted 15 years, their road movie “99 druziv halycha” was released and can be found on YouTube.

In September 2021, the band released a new song, “Netu vnutry”. In december 2022, O.Torvald also made a tour; a charity tour. They collected money for the army unit in which one of the band members was fighting.
