Biography

Mike Spiteri is a Maltese singer. He started his career when he was only 14 and sang in a rockband called Dragster. He played in the band for three years and joined several other bands after this. In the late 1981 he joined the band Strakast. However, he had to leave the island for work and when he returned in 1983, he joined the band Mirage. They won the international Festival of Maltese Song in 1985. In 1991, he took part as a solo singer in the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Maratona”. He repeated this in 1992, 1993 and 1995, the last time as a winner. With “Keep me in mind” he represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest.
In 1996, Mike Spiteri was voted best male singer at the Malta Music Awards.
He returned to the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010, when he sang “Twenty thousand leagues”, but did not reach the final. In 2011, he won the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the song “B’Rieda Tal-Ażżar”.
