Biography
Michael Schulte is a German singer and songwriter, born in Eckernförde.
Since 2008 he regularly uploaded cover versions of songs to YouTube. He mostly accompanied himself with the guitar. In total, his videos have been viewed over 50 million times. In 2010, he signed a record contract.
In 2011 he took part in The Voice of Germany. Michael Schulte reached the final became 3rd. With his title “Carry Me Home” he reached the top 10 of the German charts. In 2012 he released a debut album, “Wide Awake” which became number 1 on the German charts. Most of the songs on the album were written by Schulte himself.
In December 2012 he released an EP “Grow Old with Me”, including his second single “You Said You’d Grow Old with Me”. Schulte made a tour in spring 2013 and presented his album throughout Germany. He played a total of 29 concerts, one of which was in Vienna. In November 2013, he published the Christmas album “My Christmas Classics”. He also accompanied the British boy group Blue in the preparatory program for their tour of Germany.
In February 2014, Schulte released a new single, “Rock and Scissors” and a new album “The arising”. He was awarded the PlayAward in the Music category at the VideoDays in Cologne. From March 2017, he played the role of Micha in the three-part television series Neomaniacs. In April 2017, he released a new album: “Hold the Rhythm”.
In 2018, he represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “You let me walk alone”. Being one of the favorites in the contest, Schulte reached a 4th place for Germany. In june 2018,”Die Kinder der toten Stadt – Musikdrama gegen das Vergessen” was released; it was both a musical for radio and an album. Schulte played one of the main roles. The play tells of the children captured in Theresienstadt, their lives there and their murder in the Nazi death camps.
In 2019, a new album appeared called “Highs and lows”. His single “Back to the start” hit the German charts. In 2020, when the Eurovision Song Contest was canceled, Schulte sang in the replacement show Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light, in duet with Ilse Delange. Later, he released a single with her: “Wrong direction”.
