Biography
Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez, known professionally as Melody, was born on October 12, 1990, in Dos Hermanas, Seville, Spain. She comes from a musical family; her father and other relatives were members of the group Los Kiyos. From an early age, Melody showed a strong interest in music and began her career as a child singer.
In 2001, at the age of ten, Melody released her debut album, “De Pata Negra.” The lead single, “El Baile del Gorila,” became a significant summer hit in Spain that year. The album achieved double platinum status in Spain and was later released in the United States and Latin America. It received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Children’s Album.
Following her initial success, Melody released several more albums: “Muévete” in 2002, “T.Q.M.” in 2003, “Melodía” in 2004, “Los Buenos Días” in 2008, and “Mucho Camino por Andar” in 2014. These works showcased her evolving musical style and maturity as an artist.
In 2009, Melody participated in the Spanish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Amante de la Luna.” She reached the final round but did not win the opportunity to represent Spain that year.
In 2013, she competed in the third season of the television show “Tu Cara Me Suena,” where celebrities impersonate famous singers. Melody finished as the runner-up, demonstrating her versatility by performing as various artists.
In 2015, Melody made her acting debut in the Spanish film “Ahora o Nunca,” playing the character Irene Fernández.
In 2024, Melody was announced as a participant in the Benidorm Fest 2025, the Spanish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. She competed with the song “Esa Diva,” which addresses themes of equality and empowerment. On February 1, 2025, Melody won the Benidorm Fest, securing her position as Spain’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, scheduled to be held in Basel, Switzerland.
Throughout her career, Melody has explored various musical genres, including pop, new flamenco, Latin pop, dance-pop, and hip hop. She has also been involved in songwriting and dancing, contributing to her multifaceted presence in the Spanish music scene.
In her personal life, Melody became a mother in February 2024, giving birth to her son, Cairo, with her partner, Argentine athlete Ignacio Batallán. She has expressed that motherhood has positively influenced her life and music, bringing more passion and enthusiasm to her performances.
