Biography
Marinella is a Greek singer, born in Thessaloniki. At the age of 17, she joined an artistic group that performed throughout the country. She became the lead singer of the group and later joined the military choir.
Her first song “Nitsa Elenitsa” was released in 1957. She teamed up and performed in night clubs with Stelios Kazantzidis. The two married in 1964 and toured through Germany and the USA.
In October 1970, Marinella participated in the V Festival Internacional da Cançao Popular – Parte Internacion (FIC) in Rio de Janeiro with the song “Kyra Giorgena”. She was also involved in the 1973 MIDEM Festival in Cannes and she represented Greece in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Krassi, thalassa ke t’agori mou”. She also performed in several Greek musicals and was very popular with a string of very successful albums and live shows.
In 1998, Marinella gave a show in the Athens Concert Hall, while she did the same a year later in the small Olympic Stadium in Athens.
In 2004, Marinella released a new album, and she was involved in the closing ceremony of that year’s Olympic Games in Athens. Marinella is still active and performs in night clubs all over the country.
