Biography
Maribelle, in those days Marietje Kwakman, started her career as a singer when she was only 12 years old. She sang the christmas song “Laat het voor altijd vrede zijn” with the Volendam Opera Choir.
In 1976, she became the singer of the famous Dutch band BZN, but after four months she decided she didn’t want to be with BZN anymore. She decided to start a solo career. Under the name of Annemarie she recorded a song ” ‘t Is al morgen”. Together with her husband Jan Buijs she started a group called Spryng & Maribelle. However, she took part in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the songs “Marionette” and “Fantasie”. She became the runner up and “Marionette” was Maribelle’s first hit. Three years later, she took revenge and represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Ik hou van jou”. Maribelle kept on singing with Spryng until 1991, when she started a solo career. She released several solo singles and is still performing. Maribelle currently lives at Ibiza.
