Biography
Marianne Mendt is an Austrian singer and actress. She had a classical education, but started her career in a band called The Internationals. In 1970 she was discovered by Gerhard Bronner. Her first hit single was “Wie a Glock’n”, which was the theme tune of a satirical tv-show called “„Die große Glocke”. On the album “Wie a Glock’n”, published in 1970, one can also find jazz classics such as “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, “Spinning Wheel” and the musical hit “Aquarius”.
In 1971, Marianne Mendt represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Musik”. A year later, she published a new album called “Gute Lieder sind wie Pistolen”.
After the birth of her daughter Anna Mendt concentrated mainly on work in Vienna and increasingly played in theatre and in films. She gained great fame in the years 1992 to 2000, especially in the role of ‘Gitti Schimek’ in the ORF television series Kaisermühlen Blues. In 2000, she released a new album, “Freunde und propheten”. In 2004, she launched a young talent competition “Take Your Chance” in the Viennese scenery. In parallel, she organized a jazz festival.
