Biography

María Ólafsdóttir, also known as María Ólafs, (* March 21, 1993, in Blönduós) is an Icelandic singer and actress.

María Ólafsdóttir was selected from over 200 submissions, along with eleven others, by the Icelandic television station RÚV for the national selection competition Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015. She advanced to the final show through the semifinals and eventually emerged as the winner.

The song “Unbroken” was originally sung in Icelandic as “Lítil skref”. Both the Icelandic and the English versions became hits in Iceland, the English one reaching the no. 1 spot in the Icelandic charts. Unfortunately, she did not qualify for the final in the second semifinal.

María Ólafsdóttir released two solo singles in 2016 titled “Hold My Hand” and “Baby Take The Wheel”.

In 2018, she released a cover version of the song “Turn It Up” by Germante in Icelandic, titled “Hækka í botn”.

In 2021, after a few years of silence, María started a band: Löður. Their first release came in November of that year: ” ,,Þér fylgja englar”, followed in January 2022 by “Himinn og haf”. In September 2022, the video of the song “Þegar þú ert hér” was released.
