Biography

Lily Castel is a Belgian singer, born in Gent. She started her career as a dancer. She was discovered during the talent show ‘Ontdek de ster’ (1958) on the then BRT. She regularly sang with orchestras and also regularly performed on television, nationally and internationally. She participated at the Songfestival in Sopot. In 1970 she made a tour with Lize Marke.
In 1971, she represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest in a duet with Jacques Raymond. They had to replace Nicole & Hugo. They won the national selection with the song “Goeie morgen, morgen”, but Nicole fell ill and couldn’t perform. After the Eurovision Song Contest, Lily Castel remained active as a singer for many years. Journalist Alex De Teyger wrote a book about her: “Lily Castel. Een lied. Een leven. Een liederlijk leven.”
