Biography

Liane Augustin was an Austrian singer, actress and voice actress. She was born in Berlin but because of the bombings in 1944, the family went to Vienna. Already in 1946, she sang in the Bohème-Bar in Vienna. Three years later she got her first record deal in 1949. She started performing for Austrian radio (ORF) in 1951, even with her own shows. American producer Seymour Salomon enjoyed Liane’s program during a visit to the Bohème Bar and offered a contract that guaranteed the worldwide distribution of her records. In 1952 Liane’s first album was released in the USA. Orient-Express sets the style of a total of 16 albums that will be released until the early 1960s. In the charts, the artist succeeds especially with cover versions of American hits. In 1956, the “Dreigroschenoper” is played in Vienna with Liane Augustin performing the role of Polly Peachum. The album is awarded the Grand Prix du Disque. In 1958, she represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 1961, Liane Augustin performed with great success in the New York Town Hall.
In 1964, she participated in the German Schlagerfestspiele. Numerous foreign tours lead the singer several times around the globe.
In the mid 1970s, Liane’s audience start to increase. She started singing on a cruise ship. 

After a slight abdominal surgery, severe bleeding occurs which was unstoppable. Liane Augustin dies on April 30, 1978, suddenly and unexpectedly, at the age of 51.
