Biography

Lado Leskovar is a Slovenian singer. Already in 1951 he played a supporting role in the then great movie hit “Kekec”. During his studies, he started performing at youth dance parties with a school orchestra. Since 1958 he has been entertaining tourists as a professional singer on the hotel terraces of Portorož. The first single “Bil sem mlajši kakor ti (Bio sam mlađi od tebe)” was recorded in 1963. In the same year he won the Slovene Pop Song Contest in Bled. A year later, Leskovar won the festival of Opatija. The song, “Potraži me u predgrađu”, brought great popularity to the singer. Lado Leskovar represented Yugoslavia at the 1967 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, singing the song “Vse rože sveta”. Lado also starred in three films in 1967. Since the 1980s, Lado Leskovar has become a journalist, working for RTV Slovenia as an editorial journalist (commentator). Since 1998, he has been national ambassador for UNICEF.
