Biography

Kølig Kaj or “OMC” or “OGGER MC” Kool Bandi (born Thomas Lægård ) is a Danish rapper. He won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 1997 with the rap song “Stemmen I mit liv”. It achieved some success in Denmark, topping # 4 on the charts. By winning Melodi Grand Prix, he got the ticket to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest. “Stemmen i mit liv” was accused of plagiarism. It was said to be similar to “Don’t You Know That?” from soul singer Luther Vandross, released in 1981. However, this was rejected by producer Chief 1, who had been instrumental in composing “The Voice of My Life”.
In 2014, Kølig Kaj released the album Localization. He is known as one of the country’s pioneers of improvised rap (Freestyle rap). He was added to the “Danish Freestyle Hall Of Fame” in 2018.
