Biography
Katy Bødtger was a Danish singer, born in Nørrebro. Thanks to her singing teacher, the record company Nordisk Polyphon became aware of the young singer in 1957 and they allowed her to record the song of “Fiskerpigens sang”, which became a huge success with sales of over 100,000 gramophone records.In 1960, Bødtger won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with the song “Det var en yndig tid”. Later on that year Bødtger sang the song at the Eurovision Song Contest 1960, Katy tried again in 1961, but failed to win the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, becoming last with zero points. For a while she collaborated with Gustav Winckler and was a regular soloist in the radio show Palmehaven. In the 1960s, Bødtger made her way into the Danish top genre with successes such as “Min sang til dig”, “Lille sorte stær”, Så går vi til enkebal” og “Fest i gaden”.
In the 1980s she recorded several records with Danish hymns.
In 2005, a 3-CD box set entitled “Blå viol” was released. The box contained some of Bødtger’s best known, old recordings.
Katy Bødtger died on May 1, 2017, aged 84
