Biography
Johannes “JJ” Pietsch is a 23-year-old Austrian-Filipino counterteno. With his extraordinary vocal range, JJ has captivated audiences in both the classical and contemporary music scenes.
Born in Vienna in 2001, JJ spent part of his childhood in Dubai before moving back to Austria in 2016. Growing up in a musically rich environment, he developed a passion for opera, pop, and contemporary music. His unique countertenor voice allows him to perform across various genres, making him stand out in the Austrian music industry.
JJ gained national recognition in 2021 as a finalist on ORF’s “Starmania”, Austria’s popular talent show. His performances showcased his impressive vocal abilities, earning him praise from both the judges and the audience.
Currently, JJ performs at the Vienna State Opera, where he has participated in renowned productions like “Die Zauberflöte” and “Von der Liebe Tod”. His ability to blend classical and modern musical influences has made him a sought-after artist in Austria’s music scene.
JJ is also studying at the Music and Art Private University of Vienna, training under Univ.-Prof. Kammersängerin Linda Watson, further honing his vocal technique and stage presence.
Austria’s search for its Eurovision 2025 representative began in mid-2024. The selection process included a national and international jury of 30 experts, along with votes from nearly 30 OGAE fan clubs and the ORF ESC editorial team. After a rigorous evaluation, JJ was chosen to represent Austria at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.
His Eurovision entry is expected to showcase his powerful vocals, artistic depth, and emotional storytelling. With his unique countertenor voice, JJ aims to bring something fresh and captivating to the Eurovision stage in Basel.
