Biography
Jessica Mauboy is an Australian singer, born in Darwin of an Australian mother and an Indonesian father.
When she was 14 years old, she participated at the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition at the 2004 Tamworth Country Music Festival. She won the competition and went to Sydney to perform. She got a recording deal with Sony Music Australia. She released a country version of the Cyndi Lauper hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. Unfortunately, this was not a success and Jessica returned to Darwin.
Jessica Mauboy rose to fame when she was the runner-up in Australian Idol 2006. She released an album called “The journey”, with her Idol performances. She became a member of the girl band Young Divas, but soon started a very succesfull solocareer. Her first solo studio album “Been waiting” in 2008. The song “Burn” hit the #1 spot in the Australian charts.
Jessica’s second album “Get ’em girls” (2010) provided no less than four hit singles. Meanwhile, she started a career as an actress in the movie “Bran Nue Dae”, two years later followed by “The Sapphires”. Her third album “Beautiful” was released in 2013.
On behalf of Australia, she was a guest performer in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Another challenge she got was performing at the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Her 2016 single “Where I’ll stay” was used as a promotion song for the coverage of the Olympic Games in Rio on Australian television.
In 2018, Jessica Mauboy was involved in the Eurovision Song Contest again, now as a participant. She sang “We got love” and reached the final.
In april 2019, Jessica Mauboy released a new single, “Sunday”, followed by “Little things”. The latter became a hit in the Australian charts and got the platinum status. Both songs can be found on Jessica’s 4th album “Hilda”, which was also released in 2019.
