Jan Johansen

Biography

Jan Christian Johansen, born January 9, 1966 in Stockholm, is a Swedish singer. He also plays drums, guitar and bass. He is the son of jazz musician Egil Johansen.

The big breakthrough came in the Swedish Melodifestivalen 1995 where he performed the entry “Se på mig”, which won the competition and then finished in third place in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995. Se på mig was 17 weeks in the first place of the Svensktoppen. Johansen’s debut album sold nearly 160,000 copies.

He has participated 4 more times in Melodifestivalen: in 2001 with “Ingenmansland”, 2002 with “Sista andetaget”, 2003 with “Let Your Spirit Fly”, which he sang together with Pernilla Wahlgren as well as Melodifestivalen 2020 in the second semi-final with the song “Miraklernas tid”. He replaced Thorsten Flinck who was intended for the performance , but who was disqualified a few days before the competition. Johansen also wrote a contribution to Norsk Melodi Grand Prix 2001, called “Looking for Love”, which was performed by the Norwegian artist Rasmus Högset.

In 1990, Johansen started as a singer in the cover band Off Duty. The band was one of the most used cover bands in the first half of the 90s.

Together with i.a. guitarist Mats Hedström Johansen also runs the side project Gavelin.

On Johansen’s album “Trumslagarens pojke”, released in June 2016, Johansen collaborated with the writer Camilla Läckberg, who wrote all the lyrics.

Johansen has lived sober since 2008.

In 2013, the autobiographical book Med nya ögon was published. Johansen wrote the book together with the journalist and author Colette van Luik. In the book, Johansen talks about his life and the back side of celebrity. Jan tells how in 2008 he gave up alcohol and that he began to see life with new eyes. The book also contains an interview with My Skarsgård, doctor and alcohol and drug therapist who herself has experience of addiction.
