Biography

Jacques Raymond is a Belgian singer, born in Temsen. Raymond rose to fame when in 1955 he took part in the casting show “Ontdek de ster”. In the years that followed he performed as a singer on many programs on Belgian television. In 1961 he took part in the Belgian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. With the title “Als je weent, als je lacht” he finished second behind the winner Bob Benny. Two years later, he participated again. This time he won with the song “Waarom?”. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1963 in London, he landed in the rear midfield and reached with four points the tenth place among 16 participants. Over the 1960s, he released singles in Dutch, German and French. In 1971, he represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest again, now in a duet with Lily Castel. They had to replace Nicole & Hugo. They won the national selection with the song “Goeie morgen, morgen”, but Nicole fell ill and couldn’t perform. Raymond released several singles in the 1970s. In 1993, he was a member of the jury at the Belgian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest.
