Biography

Ireen Sheer, born in Romford, England, is an English-German singer. In the 1960’s she sang in the successfull band The Family Dogg. However, in the early 1970’s, she chose to sing solo and concentrated mainly on Germany. Her single “Goodbye mama” became a German top-5 chart success. She performed in ZDF Hitparade, one of the most popular tv-shows in Germany. In 1974, she represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest. Four years later, she did the same, but then for Germany. In 1985, Ralph Siegel got the idea of three duo’s from respectively France, Germany and the United Kingdom, to represent Luxembourg. However, the French duo contained a Dutch and a Belgian singer. The song “Children, Kinder, enfants” contained three different languages. Ireen Sheer was one of them. Besides her solo performances, Sheer also sang a number of duets with her ex-husband Gavin du Porter, and her colleague, Bernhard Brink. Over thirty years after her first hit, Sheer is still a well-known member of the pop music establishment in Germany, continuing to appear on music shows and release new albums and singles. Ireen won the Goldene Stimmgabel, an important prize in the field of music in Germany, twice: in 1981 and in 1983.
