Biography
Gerard Joling is a Dutch singer and tv-presenter. Born in Alkmaar and raised in Schagen, he did many attempts to get some fame as a singer and a dancer. His real breakthrough came when he took part in the ‘Soundmixshow’ in 1985. His debut single “Love is in your eyes” became a huge hit in the Netherlands. His second single “Ticket to the tropics” topped the Dutch chart. Outside the Netherlands he also rose to fame in Asia. In 1988, he was chosen to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Shangri la”. The year after, “No more Bolero’s” became his biggest hit so far. After this, Joling kept on reaching the charts but the succes seemed to fade, until 2005. He joined The Toppers, made a tv-show “Joling & Gordon over de vloer” together with Toppers-singer Gordon and he decided to start singing in Dutch. It was a turning point in Joling’s career with several number-1 spots in the charts. Joling also hosted the shows “Sterren dansen op het ijs” and “So you wanna be a popstar”. Joling was supposed to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, but he temporary left the Toppers during that time. He came back to the Toppers and is still a member of the group.
