Biography

Francesca Michielin is an Italian singer and songwriter. When she was twelve she played bass in a student band. In 2011 she participated in the fifth edition of X Factor Italy. On January 6, 2012, her debut single Distratto was released. The song reached the first position in several charts and was certified multi-platinum for over 60,000 copies sold.The song is the lead single from her debut EP of the same name.

In the same year Francesca made her first appearance at the Festival di Sanremo,  in duet with Chiara Civello, the latter competing in the Artists category.

On 2 October 2012 her debut album “Riflessi” appeared. The album reached the fourth position of the Italian album chart, while also the single “Sola” became a hit. The singles “Tutto questo che ho” and “Se cadrai” were also extracted from the album. The singer collaborated with Fedez in the creation of the song “Cigno nero”, featured in rapper Mr. Brainwash’s album  “The art of contentment” and released as a single on 1 March 2013

In January 2014 Francesca took part in the play La ragazza con l’orecchino di perla in the lead role. In March 2014 she was chosen as the only Italian artist for the soundtrack of the film The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Il potere di electro. The song, entitled “Amazing”, is included in the soundtrack of the film.

In July 2014 the singer collaborated again with Fedez in the creation of the single “Magnifico”. The song became 6 times platinum! In 2015, Francesca released the single “L’amore esiste”. The song was certified multi-platinum for selling over 100,000 copies. On July 10 of the same the second single “Battito di ciglia” was released, followed in September 2015 by “Lontano”.

In October, however, her new album “di20are” was released. It was followed by her participation in the Festival di Sanremo 2016 with the song “Nessun grado di seperazione”. Francesca Michielin reached the 2nd place in the Festival di Sanremo. However, because the winning group didn’t want to go to the Eurovision Song Contest, Francesca got the choice and said yes. The title of the song was changed into English, “No degree of separation”, a bilingual version of the song. She reached a 16th place in the Grand final. 

On June 3, 2016, the single “Un cuore in due” was released, subsequently certified gold for over 25,000 copies sold. In September 2016, on the occasion of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, the film Piuma was presented, whose main theme is “Almeno tu” a song extracted as the last single of “di20are” on the 23rd of the same month. On October 5, Michielin kicks off the di20are Tour, a tour that engages her throughout the autumn of 2016 in various clubs in Italy.

In February 2017 she took part in the soundtrack of the animated film Ballerina with the song “Tu sei una favola”. On July 21, 2017 “Vulcano” was released, a single written by Michielin herself together with Dardust. “Vulcano” has been certified platinum. In November 2017 the song was followed by “Io non abito al mare”.  This single was also certified platinum.

On 12 January 2018, a new Francesca Michielin album was released, entitled “2640”. Francesca had co-written almost all of the participating songs. A new single followed, called “Bolivia” and a tour in the summer of 2018. The tour was accompanied by a new single, “Tropicale”, and later “Femme”.

A new album “Feat (stato di natura)” was released on 13 March 2020. In the weeks leading up to the album, Francesca performed three concerts in Milan.] At the end of each performance she presented a new song, which was later released as a single online. On 20 February she published “Gange” in collaboration with Shiva, on 27 February “Riserva naturale” with Coma Cose, on 5 March “Monolocale” with Fabri Fibra and almost simultaneously, on 12 March, “Stato di natura” with Måneskin.

In 2021 he took part in the 71st Festival di Sanremo with the song “Chiamami per nome” paired with Fedez. Again, Francesca became 2nd in the Festival di Sanremo.

In 2022 she took part in the 72nd Festival di Sanremo as a conductor for the song “Ogni volta è così” by Emma Marrone. On 6 March of the same year she made her debut as a tv-show host in the program Effetto terra, broadcast on Sky Nature and on demand on Now. On the 15th of the same month, she published her first novel, Il cuore è un organo., published by Mondadori. She has hosted the sixteenth edition of The X Factor, 10 years after her victory as a competitor.

The following July 1, she released the single “Bonsoir”, aimed at promoting the tour Bonsoir! – Michielin10 at the theater scheduled for 2023. On 9 September she released the single “Occhi grandi grandi”, which became a radio hit, entering the top 10 of Italian airplay and the top 15 of radio airplay. Both singles preceded the announcement of the artist’s fourth album, titled “Cani sciolti”, distributed on February 24, 2023.
