Biography

Norwegian singer Finn Kalvik was born in the small village of Fåvang. Kalvik had his breakthrough as a singer in 1969, when he had a hit with the song “Finne meg sjæl”, followed by hits like “En tur rundt i byen” and “Ride ranke”. Kalvik’s first four albums all reached the top-15 of the Norwegian album charts. Two of his albums were produced by Abba’s Benny Andersson. In 1981 he represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Aldri i livet”, getting the hated ‘nil points’. However, there was a pretty successful English version, “Here in my heart”, with backing vocals of Agnetha Fältskog and Annifrid Lyngstad, the Abba-ladies.
In 1982, Kalvik was asked again to participate in Melodi Grand Prix, the national final for Eurovision. However, he refused to do so. We saw him back in 1987 with an ode to his daughter, “Malene”.
Finn Kalvik released a total of thirteen albums. In 2002 and 2005, he made albums under the respective names “Klassisk Kalvik”, volume I and II. On those albums, he re-recorded old songs, but now with a symphony orchestra.
In 1998, comedy show Åpen Post featured ‘Finn Kalvik News’, where jokes were made about Kalvik. Kalvik was not too happy with this, and the makers had to apologize.
