Biography

Filipa Sousa, born on March 2, 1985, in Albufeira, is a Portuguese singer. Her musical career began in 2003 as a member of the Portuguese group Al-Mouraria. That same year, she auditioned for the second edition of Operação Triunfo, a Portuguese reality TV show and music competition, reaching the top 30 finalists.

In 2007, Sousa auditioned again for Operação Triunfo, this time reaching the final 15 and gaining public recognition. Her breakthrough came in 2008 when she won the Grande Noite de Fado in Algarve, a prestigious Fado singing competition in Portugal.

Sousa’s major international exposure occurred in 2012 when she represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. She performed the song “Vida Minha,”. Unfortunately she didn’t make it to the final.

Still in 2012, she recorded the track ‘Sunset Lovers’ in partnership with DJs Christian F and Dj Gonzalez, released by Exclusive Records (Vidisco). The success of this track led to its inclusion in several compilations that summer, and the label even organized a contest for other DJs to produce new remixes.

In 2017, she released the single ‘Há lá coisa bem melhor’. A year later the song was followed by “Acreditar”, followed by an album with the same name in early 2019. She released another single from this album, “Miradouro, O Filme”.

On 13 June 2020, she gave a concert in Albufeira which was transmitted online, due to the COVID19 regulations. In September 2021 she was a candidate for the municipal council of Albufeira for the political party MIPA.
