Biography
Greek singer Elpida was born in Spercheiada but moved to Athens. She began her singing career in 1970 when she became the singer of an orchestra and subsequently recorded an album with them. In 1972, she participated in Thessaloniki Music Festival. She presented her first solo album and in the same year. She participated in many festivals. She earned the 2nd place in the festival of Tokyo and won the Viña del Mar festival in Chile. She performed a lot in tv-shows in Latin America, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries and Israel. In 1979, she represented Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Socrates”. Her new album reached the golden status in Israel. In 1986, she was in the Eurovision Song Contest again, now representing Cyprus.
In 1988, she released a new album and had a radio hit with the song “”Opos Se Thelo S’oneirevomai”. She released a total of 21 albums, the last one in 1997. Elpida married in 1979 and gave birth to her first child, a girl named Hera, in 1980. Her second child, Stephanos, was born in 1985 and led to her absence from the music industry for four years as she spent time with her family.
