Biography

Elán is a Slovak music group founded in 1968 in Bratislava by then elementary school classmates singer Jožo Ráž, keyboard player Vašo Patejdl, guitarist Juraj Farkaš and drummer Zdeno Baláž. They played in high school and college clubs in Bratislava, later abroad, in Tunisia, Bulgaria and Sweden. The band became known to the general public in 1980 after receiving a silver award with the song “Kaskadér” . During the 1980s the band captivated the audience mainly with their original Slovak music. Elán released numerous studio music projects. From this period many hits came. At the end of 1989 Szabo and Karvash left the group. At the beginning of the 1990s, the group was renewed .With the new line-up they wanted to represent Slovakia in the Eurovision Song Contest. Unfortunately they failed to qualify in Kvalifikacija Za Millstreet. Elán has also produced several hits within the Czechoslovak music scene and has also received several awards in public popularity surveys, such as placements in the Czechoslovak or later Slovak Slávik polls. The Elán brand is one of those that can still sell the biggest concert stages in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. There were 80,000 people at the Prague Summer Concert. On September 21, 2007, the band performed a concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York. Nowadays we can say that the members of the group Elán are Jožo Ráž, Vašo Patejdl and Ján Baláž.
