Biography

Dulce Pontes is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. She was a professional pianist but became a singer after she won a competition at the age of 18. She soon became an actress on television and in the theater. She represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 with the song “Lusitana paixão”. Since Eurovision she has been a very well respected artist. She sings in Portuguese, but also in Spanish, Galician, Mirandese, Italian, English, French and Greek. Her interpretations of fado classics such as “Lágrima” and “Estranha forma de vida” gave her nominations in the press as “successor and heiress to Amália Rodrigues”. Her song “A canção do mar”  was on the soundtrack of the Hollywood film Primal fear and was even covered by Sarah Brightman.  Together with film composer Ennio Morricone, she recorded the album “Focus” in 2003, after previously singing the song “A brisa do coração” for the Italian film Sostiene Pereira. In 2007 she sang the song “One world (We are one)” together with José Carreras at the official opening of the international election “New 7 Wonders of the World” . In 2000 Dulce Pontes received the Prémio José Afonso for her album “O primeiro canto”.
