Biography
Doce was an all girl group. The idea of creating a group of four women came from composer and singer Tozé Brito, at the Gemini farewell party. With the exception of Laura Diogo, model and Miss Fotogenia in 1978 , the group consisted of experienced singers: Fa and Teresa Miguel were former members of the Gemini; Lena Coelho, had been part of Cocktail and in the final phase of Gemini too. Doce was synonymous with success, not only in Portugal but also abroad, namely in Spain, France, the United States, the Philippines. This success brought the idea of recording some of the songs in English too.
They competedin Festival da Canção four times; in 1982 they represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Bem-bom”. In 1982 a single was released with the themes “For The Love Of Conchita” and “Choose Again”. The album was also published in the Netherlands.
In 1985, Lena Coelho became pregnant and was replaced by Fernanda de Sousa. The following year, Fa decided to quit. It was the beginning of the end of the group that, in the final phase, only counted three singers: Teresa Miguel, Laura Diogo and Lena Coelho. In 1987, they decided to quit and released one last album.
