Biography

Dina (real name Ondina Maria Farias Veloso) was a popular Portuguese pop singer who is best known for representing Portugal at the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest.

Dina was born in Carregal do Sal, Portugal, on June 18, 1956. She discovered her passion for music at an early age and started her career in the 1970s, performing in various music festivals across Portugal. She quickly became a prominent figure in the Portuguese pop scene with her distinct voice and unique performance style.

In 1978, Dina released her debut single “Há Sempre Música Entre Nós”, but her major breakthrough came in 1980 with her single “Amor d’Água Fresca”. This song won the Festival da Canção, a national music competition, and subsequently became a major hit in Portugal.

Dina continued to build a successful music career throughout the 1980s, releasing several albums and numerous singles, and gaining a loyal fan base in Portugal.

In 1992, she represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Amor d’Água Fresca”. Although she didn’t win the competition, her participation increased her visibility and popularity in the international music scene.

Aside from her singing career, Dina was also known for her work as a music teacher and her contributions to Portuguese television, where she composed music for several shows and series.

Dina passed away on April 11, 2019, in Lisbon, Portugal, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
