Biography

Christa Williams was a German schlager singer. She was born and raised in Königsberg, East Prusia (currently Kaliningrad). She studied singing and harp at the Munich Conservatory. sang at Bayerischer Rundfunk and immediately got a record deal with Decca Records. Their first two singles, Oh, These Men (1957) and Blacky Serenade (1957) were not very successful. In 1958 she had her first hit together with Jo Roland and the song “Himmelblaue Serenade”. Together with Gitta Lind she had a great success in 1959 with My Happiness („Immer will ich treu dir sein“).
In 1959, Christa was chosen to represent Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang the song “Irgendwoher”. Other hits by Christa Williams are “Sombrero”, “Onkel Tom” and “Chou-chou-chou”. Until the early 1960s she remained successful in showbusiness.
Christa Williams has also appeared in several films.
In 1962 the artist married the pianist Albrecht Huwig, whom she knew from her studies. In 1968, Christa Williams retired from show business and founded a music school with her husband in Munich. 

Christa Williams died on 28 or 29 july 2012 at aged 86 years.
