Biography

Charlotte Nilsson, born on October 7, 1974, in Hovås, Sweden, is a Swedish singer known for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1999. She grew up in Gothenburg and started performing at a young age. In her early years, she sang in bands and worked as a singer on cruise ships. Her musical career developed further in the 1990s when she joined the dance band Anders Engbergs. Later, she became a member of the band Wizex, which was active in the Swedish dansband scene.

In 1999, Charlotte represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Take Me to Your Heaven.” She had won Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection, earlier that year. The song was written by Lars Diedricson and Marcos Ubeda. At the contest, held in Jerusalem, she won with 163 points. “Take Me to Your Heaven” became a hit in Sweden and other European countries. The song was released in both English and Swedish, with the Swedish version titled “Tusen och en natt.”

Following her Eurovision victory, Charlotte released the album Charlotte in 1999. It contained pop and schlager music, with several tracks written by well-known Swedish songwriters. She continued her career with more albums, including Miss Jealousy in 2001 and Gone Too Long in 2004. During this time, she also appeared on television shows and performed at various music events in Sweden and abroad.

In 2008, Charlotte returned to Melodifestivalen under the name Charlotte Perrelli, after marrying Swedish businessman Nicola Perrelli in 2003. She competed with the song “Hero,” written by Fredrik Kempe and Bobby Ljunggren. She won the competition and represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. In the final, she placed 18th out of 25 contestants. Despite this, “Hero” became popular in Sweden and reached high positions on the music charts.

Over the years, Charlotte has been active in the entertainment industry as a singer, TV presenter, and judge on music competition shows. She has participated in Melodifestivalen multiple times, including in 2012, 2017, and 2021. In 2021, she competed with the song “Still Young,” which reached the final. She has also released Christmas albums and performed in various stage productions.

Apart from her music career, Charlotte has written books about health and beauty. She has also been involved in business ventures, including launching her own brand of skincare products.

Charlotte Perrelli remains a well-known figure in Sweden’s music industry. She continues to perform and engage in media projects. In recent years, she has appeared in reality TV shows and expanded her business ventures. She is married to Anders Jensen, and they have children together. She shares updates about her work and personal life through social media and television appearances. Her contributions to Swedish pop music and Eurovision history are widely recognized.
