Biography
Cathal Dunne is an Irish singer and songwriter, born in Cork. His career started when he won the 1974 Castlebar Song Contest with the song “Shalom”. Two years later, he took part in the Irish National Song Contest with the song “Danny”. He didn’t win, but represented Ireland in the World Popular Song Contest in Tokyo. Cathal Dunne had several hits in 1976.
In 1979, he represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest with his song “Happy man”. In 1981, he released the song “We’ll be there”, which was the theme song for the political party Fianna Fáil’s 1981 general election campaign.
After having given some concerts in Michigan, Cathal decided to move to the United States, where he now performs as a singer of Irish traditional folk music. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennysilvania, now with his wife and two children.
