Biography

Bob Benny was a Belgian singer, born in Sint-Niklaas. His first performance on radio was in 1951. The first song he recorded was called “Mijn hart spreekt tot u”. In 1957, Benny had his first hit “Cindy, oh Cindy”. In 1959, he represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Hou toch van mij”. Two years later he did the same with the song “September, gouden roos”. The bad score of the latter was said to be blamed on the Belgian politics in Congo at that time.
In 1963, Bob Benny took part in the national selection again. He entered the contest with the songs “Kleine blauwe zwalud” and “Boerendans”. The first one was disqualified because the song had already been played on radio. Out of dissatisfaction, Benny then sang “Boerendans” with the lyrics of the disqualified song. “Boerendans” therefore, was also disqualified.
In the same year, Bob Benny had his biggest hit with the song “Waar en wanneer”. It became a top-3 hit in Flanders and also entered the Dutch charts.
Bob Benny was able to perform in several European country because of his Eurovision participations. He performed in several musicals in Berlin. Even until 2000, Benny played in musicals.
Bob Benny passed away on 29 march 2011.
