Biography
Betty Curtis was an Italian singer, born in Milan. She was discovered as a singer by Teddy Reno and released her first record in 1957. She made her debut at the Festival di Sanremo in 1959, interpreting three songs, all finalists, including, together with Wilma De Angelis, the song “Nessuno”. Also in 1959 she appeared in the film “I ragazzi del Juke-Box”, in which she interpreted the character of the singer Betty Dorys. She returnedto the Festival di Sanremo in 1960 with the song “Non sei felice”. A year later, she won Sanremo with the song “Al di là”. She represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. At the next Sanremo she performed two songs. At the end of the same year he obtained the greatest record success of his career with Chariot (Sul mio carro). In 1964 she took part in Cantagiro and Un disco per l’estate, which will see him as protagonist even in the following two years, while at the Sanremo Festival 1965 she performed “No in coppia”. In 1965 she played in the film “008 Operazione Ritmo”. Her sixth and last participation in the 1967 Sanremo Festival was with the song “È più forte di me”. She remained popular after this because of participation in popular tv-shows like Canzonissima. Although her record contract ended in 1970, every now and then she was able to record and release albums. In 1991, for example, she released an album.
Betty Curtis died at the age of 70 on 15 june 2006, after a long illness. She was married to singer Claudio Celli of Quartetto Radar.
