Biography

Berta Ambrož was a Slovenian singer. She made her debut on the music scene in 1965 at the Slovenian songcontest Slovenska Popevka, where she performed the song “Luci Ljubljane” She won an audience award with the same song at the festival of Opatija. A year later, she participated in the Jugovizija, the national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. She won Jugovizija with the song “Brez besed” and represented Jugoslavia at the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest.  The song was a great success in Yugoslavia.  In 1967, the Dutch singer Willeke Alberti recorded an English version of the song, entitled “Without Words”. The 1973 Spanish representatives Mocedades were accused of plagiarism because their song “Eres tú” sounded much like “Brez besed”. Berta also took part in the 1967 and 1968 festival of Opatija. She also took part in Slovenska Popevka more than once: in 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1973.
Berta Ambroždied on July 1, 2003, aged 58. In 2007, a compilation album with most of her songs, performed at song contests, appeared.
