Biography

Anita Traversi was a Swiss singer, born in Giubiasco. She started singing in orchestras in the mid 1950s. With the song “Bandella Ticinese” she participated in the first ever national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. She went to Italy, had a record contract there and worked together with Adriano Celentano. In 1960, she represented Switzerland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Cielo e terra’. She participated a second time in the contest in 1964 with “I miei pensieri”. Also in the festival of Sopot she performed twice. Anita Traversi could also been seen in contests like the Song Festival of Rio de Janeiro and the Golden Orpheus in Bulgaria.
After the second Eurovision participation Anita’s successes started to fade. In the early 1970s she retired from showbusiness in order to pay more attention to her family. The only exception she made is when she took part in the 1976 national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
On 25 september 1991, Anita Traversi passed away, aged only 54 years.
